New builds, extensions and conversions

Any new kitchen, bathroom or extension needs drainage designed into it rather than added afterwards. We work from the plans, set the falls and invert levels, and put the connections where the build needs them.

Replacing a run that has failed

Where a pipe has gone beyond drain relining - fully collapsed, or laid to the wrong fall from the start - a drainage renovation is the honest answer. Collapsed drain repairs on a short length are one thing; a run that never worked needs relaying.

Surface water, flooding and soil saturation

Standing water on a lawn or a drive is usually excess surface water with nowhere to go. On a flood-prone property, soil saturation sits against property foundations and does slow damage. New surface water drainage moves the water runoff away before it becomes a problem.

Foul drainage

The pipework taking waste from toilets, sinks and appliances to the sewer. Sized and laid so the drainage flow keeps solids moving rather than dropping them at a low point.

Surface water drains and storm drains

Gullies, channels and a storm drain connection where the volume justifies one, sized for the roof and hard-standing area feeding them. Rainwater pipes are tied in at the same time.

French drains

A French drain is a gravel-filled trench with a perforated pipe, used where ground water needs intercepting rather than collecting at a gully. It is the usual answer to a permanently wet garden and to soil saturation against a wall.

Channel drainage

Channel drainage across a drive or threshold catches water before it reaches a door or a garage. Straightforward to install during a resurfacing job and much harder afterwards.

Survey and design

We start with a drainage investigation: what is already there, where it runs and what it connects to. CCTV drain surveys and drain tracing map the existing drainage system, and a CCTV survey record is kept, and a CAT and Genny sweep finds services before we dig. That is also where drainage challenges and existing drainage issues get found, not halfway through the job.

Excavation and laying

Trenches are dug to the depth the falls need, bedded and surrounded properly, and the pipe laid to the designed gradient. Excavations are shored and the working area protected while we are on site.

Testing and handover

Nothing is backfilled until it has been checked.

Water testing

The new run is water-tested before the trench is closed, so a bad joint is found while it still costs nothing to reach.

Drawings and certificates

You get as-built drawings, test certificates and a photographic record. Building control officers, insurers and property buyers all ask for these, and they are much harder to produce afterwards.

New drainage is only worth having if it is looked after, so routine maintenance and gully clearance keep it working. We also cover drain unblocking and blocked drains, blocked toilets, drain repairs and drain repair work, drain cleaning and drain clearing, high pressure drain jetting, and drainage surveys with WRc reports. CCTV surveys before and after are standard, and you get the CCTV drain survey footage.

High pressure jetting uses water alone, which is the environmentally responsible way to clear a line and keeps chemicals out of the ground. Drainage solutions fail early when they are laid wrong, and most drainage problems trace back to that. Attention to detail on the small things - the falls, the bedding, the reinstatement - is what decides drainage efficiency ten years later.
